That the English company Tullow Oil Plc plans to drill in French Guiana by year’s end is good news for Trinidad and Tobago’s growth plans for the shipping industry.Speaking confidently is Damien Rose, general manager of Mariners Haven Ltd, a member of the CL Financial Group.Rose is also managing director of Delphin Marine Logistics Ltd, a member of the HCL Group. “Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana have never had that type of activity, so a lot of the support services – not just for marine, but oilfield service support – is going to come from Trinidad,” Rose said. “There aren’t really good deep water ports in Guyana, so when all the heavy equipment comes in, it will be landed in Trinidad and then moved to Guyana in smaller boats. It’s going to increase the level of activity here.”
