PUBLISHER'S NOTE
THE 2011-2012 EDITION of Who's Who in Trinidad & Tobago Business is being published in what seems to be a time of turmoil for first world economies. As of writing this both the European and US stock markets are experiencing turbulence almost on par with that of the 2007-2008 global financial crisis, spurred by debt fears and slow growth in the US economy.
In early August the European Central Bank was forced to intervene and announced it would buy up government debt as the markets tumbled because of the debt crisis. The European markets however, remain volatile. In the US the most dramatic financial news has been the downgrade of US debt by credit ratings agency Standard and Poor's, a historical first that could lower confidence in the economy.
These uncertain conditions are having an impact on global capital markets and could be the signal of a double-dip recession in those first world economies.
At home here in Trinidad and Tobago, the private sector is anxiously awaiting both the return to normalcy of the labour markets which have outstanding contract negotiations with the State and, of course, the budget in September. The annual budget seems to be the measurement used by the national stakeholders as the set of assumptions that back the spending patterns of the general public and the investment strategies of business.
In turbulent times like these, many opportunities exist for risk-taking cash-bearing individuals and companies, their only challenge being how quickly they can find the best opportunities and who can they contact to embark upon new ventures. This is the ultimate value of being included in Who's Who and owning a copy of the publication. With its comprehensive list of players across all of Trinidad and Tobago's economic sectors and its informative snapshots of the sectors themselves, Who's Who is essentially an index of opportunity. After all, being visible in the right place at the right time is what differentiates luck from opportunity.
It is my sincere hope that all our business partners who continue to see the immense value of this publication to their business, and those who for the first time are joining the team, have a successful year as we strive to make this marketing tool the best single channel for future business partners and customers to find their companies.
