Foreword by Minister Kenneth Valley

Welcome to the 2007-08 edition of Who’s Who in Trinidad and Tobago Business. This magazine is one of the leading local business publications. Not only does it provide vital information on the major companies across virtually every sector of the Trinidad and Tobago economy, it is also an invaluable tool for the local or foreign prospective investor as it provides basic corporate profiles and data that will support the investment decision.

The breadth, depth and scope of our services and manufacturing sector, both energy and non-energy, and the possibilities inherent in our dynamic and versatile economy and powerful human resource base are demonstrated clearly by this publication.

Our private sector displays a maturity and vigour that make the Government justifiably proud. We are pleased to be associated with this vibrancy as we position Trinidad and Tobago for long-term sustainable economic development of the non-energy sector.

Government’s recent Green Paper on a new Investment Policy aims to provide further impetus to entrepreneurs, both local and foreign (see page 21).  Not content to rely on the fact that we have had 13 years of continuous economic growth, possess strong macro-economic indicators or that Trinidad and Tobago is of one of the largest recipients per capita of FDI in the Western Hemisphere, the Government is building a platform to ensure long-term economic sustainability. Conceptually, Trinidad and Tobago is being positioned as the hub for business, trade, finance and manufacturing within the Greater Caribbean.

Investors choosing to locate here will find ready duty free markets in CARICOM through the Caribbean Single Market; in Latin America through our bilateral trade agreements with nations such as Costa Rica, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia and the Dominican Republic and in Europe and North America through preferential arrangement soon to be converted to Free Trade Agreements.

With confidence we say Trinidad and Tobago is definitely the Place for Business!
