Message from the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce
The STCIC is again pleased to be associated with the Who’s Who in Trinidad and Tobago Business publication. The last year was a very significant one for the STCIC as we celebrated our 50th anniversary. We were also pleased to once more host the Trinidad and Tobago Petroleum Conference, a success in terms of dissemination of energy sector intelligence, networking and participation by the leadership of the local and international energy sector. We now look forward to the Trinidad and Tobago Petroleum Conference, 2008.
In the coming year, we will continue to lobby on behalf of our members in the areas of local content in the energy sector, uniform HS&E standards, export of energy services and corporate social responsibility. Our Safe To Work (STOW) project, which aims to develop uniform standards for the Trinidad and Tobago energy sector, has recently completed its first component. The STOW project is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the Association of Upstream Operators and the STCIC.
Another significant project currently being undertaken by the STCIC is the Oil and Environment project, which started in July 2007. The STCIC has also successfully lobbied for Trade in Energy Services to be put on the agenda of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The STCIC has also worked with the UNDP and other private sector organisations over the past year, to put corporate social responsibility at the forefront of national awareness. The STCIC is the first indigenous Trinidad and Tobago organisation to sign the United Nations Global Compact.
