The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) is a statutory body created by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to address the country’s environmental problems. It seeks to ensure the protection, conservation, enhancement and wise use of the environment throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
A key component of the organisation’s responsibilities is the development of environmental standards and criteria, some of which were responsible for Trinidad and Tobago’s successful conversion to unleaded gasoline in 2004.
The EMA continues to fulfill its mandate of raising awareness of environmental concerns as well as regulatory and non-regulatory programmes essential for environmental governance.
