
Petrotrin is an integrated oil and gas company, wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The Company was formed on 1993 January 21 out of the merger of the former Trinidad and Tobago Oil Company Limited (Trintoc) and Trinidad and Tobago Petroleum Company Limited (Trintopec). Trinmar subsequently became a part of Petrotrin in 2000.
Company Profile
Petrotrin is involved in the exploration for and production of crude oil. The Company also refines 150,000 barrels of oil per day and markets finished petroleum products to local consumers, the Eastern Caribbean and the Eastern seaboard of the United States. Petrotrin's registered office is located at Petrotrin Administration Building, Southern Main Road, Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad.
Corporate Governance
The Company is led by Executive Chairman Mr. Malcolm Jones who heads the Board of Directors as well as an Executive Leadership Team. Petrotrin has a combined workforce of 5,000 employees.
Upstream Portfolio
Petrotrin has three sub-divisions within its Exploration and Production Division. The first of these is Production Operations which includes its Land North and East Coast (LNE) and Trinmar Operations.
The Land North and East Coast (LNE) Operations manage the Company’s own land holdings as well as its near-shore acreages on the East and North Coasts. The daily production average is 17,000 bopd. Trinmar Operations is located offshore South West Trinidad and its daily production is approximately 30,816 barrels of oil and 24.9 MMCF of gas.
The Joint Venture sub-division monitors the performance of Joint Venture partners, Lease Operatorships and Farmout partners. Major Joint Venture partners include BHP Billiton, British Gas, Talisman, Total and PetroCanada among others.
The Exploration and Development (E&D) sub-division is responsible for growth opportunities in the upstream side of the business. It provides the technical expertise for finding new reserves.
Downstream Operations
The Company owns and operates the only oil refinery in Trinidad and Tobago. The Pointe-a-Pierre refinery processes 150,000 bpd of crude oil, of which 65,000 is available locally, while the rest is imported from Venezuela, Brazil, West Africa and Colombia. Finished products include liquefied petroleum gases, gasoline, jet fuel/ kerosene, diesel and heavy fuel oil.
Key Refinery Projects
Petrotrin is currently involved in a Gasoline Optimisation Programme (GOP), that is aimed at producing cleaner and more efficient fuels. The Programme involves the construction of an Alkylation Unit, Acid Unit, Prefractionation Unit, C5/ C6 Isomerisation Complex and a CCR Platforming Complex. The Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) will also be upgraded.
The Company is also engaged in a Journey to Excellence project that will improve the reliability and efficiency of the existing refinery.
