Guardian's Heritage lives on...
We trace our tradition of service in the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean over 160 years. Our connection with regional communities is embedded in the generations of families to whom we at Guardian have given peace of mind.
Our corporate social responsibility is evident in: our first-class human resource practices; employee development programmes; workplace health, safety and wellness; and an intrinsic acknowledgement of civic responsibility. This has been formalised into Guardian Initiatives for Transformation (GIFT), driven by employee volunteers. Additionally, community outreach initiatives focus primarily on children, the elderly and families.
Our Life Pulse wellness programme is led by employees and supported by the company. It aims to improve the quality of work life under the motto 'healthy minds, healthy bodies, healthy lives'. Activities include participation in a financial services sector urban track challenge, in- house dance and aerobic classes, turtle watching and a series of employee health fairs.
Guardian's focus on the environment is emulated through programmes such as Project Green, which encourages employees to engage in green initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint. In 2010 we added plastic recycling to our glass, batteries, and paper initiatives. The Company continues to play its part in energy-saving by powering down buildings at night.
Our Pride in Pawi Project, undertaken by the Guardian Life Wildlife Fund in association with the UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme, in 2010 continues in 2011.
Guardian's regional commitment is illustrated through the Premium Teaching Awards, a collaborative activity with the Mona and
St. Augustine Campuses of The University of the West Indies and our sponsorship of the regional CARIFTA Games, the premier track and field meet of the English, French and Dutch Caribbean, since 2002.
Thriving in difficult times
Guardian and its subsidiaries embody the qualities of Strength, Endurance and Leadership.
Strength is the ability, not just to survive, but also to thrive in challenging times.
Endurance means that when times are lean and the going is tough, we become leaner and tougher. Our people find new and better ways to persevere.
Leadership comes through in our strategic thinking and advanced planning. We know when to cut out losses and move ahead, quickly and confidently.
