The National Insurance Board of Trinidad and Tobago (NIBTT), a body corporate, was established by the government in 1971 to provide income replacement services to insured workers and their dependants where specified contingencies result in loss of earnings.

Within the national framework of social security, the

NIBTT operates a system of National Insurance that offers coverage in respect of Maternity, Sickness, Employment Injury, Invalidity, Survivorship, Funeral Grants and Retirement.

The NIBTT is governed by a tri-partite Board of Management. Board members representing the interests

of the business sector, the government and the labour movement are appointed by the Minister of Finance to oversee the operations of the organisation.

Through its head office located at Cipriani Boulevard in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the NIBTT manages a customer service network consisting of sixteen locations - two in Tobago and fourteen in Trinidad.

Nationals who work abroad can also access National Insurance benefits by way of its reciprocal agreements

with Canada and participating CARICOM countries. These regional and international partnerships help guarantee that both citizens who are resident abroad and foreigners on work assignments at home qualify for National Insurance benefits by pooling their contributions.

The NIBTT's track record for prudent fund management is evidenced by an asset base worth over $13.1 billion. Such a testimony of success is vital for the sustenance of the NIS in the long term. More so, as the NIBTT is working to include the self-employed sector among its target markets and to improve the value of benefits.

the NIBTT along its course towards effectively and efficiently delivering social insurance products and

services that satisfy the needs of the population
