The Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica
PROCOMER is the export promotion agency of the government of Costa Ric. Our office in Trinidad & Tobago, which had been in operation since 2003, is responsible for all export promotion related activities for the CARICOM region.
Costa Rica's trade ties with the Caribbean have been growing steadily, with a phenominal increase in Costa Roca'm exports to the region over the last 5 years. Today, the Caribbean ranks as a more important destination for Costa Rican exports than all of South America together.
These ties were further strengthened by the Free Trade Agreement between Costa Rica and CARICOM signed in March 2004 and already effective in Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Guyana, and we expect that it will soon come into effect in Jamaica and Suriname.
Food items, pharmaceuticals, detergents, plastic, packaging materials, construction products and fresh produce account for most of what is brought into the CARICOM region from Costa Rica. As a consequence of the Free Trade Agreement, the opportunities are expanding.
