Environmental Sciences Limited (ESL)
The company's core resource base comprises of qualified and experienced professionals as well as international partners and consultants that provide support for environmental research, marine and land based project.
Environmental Sciences Limited retains expertise from the local and foreign industries familiar with upstream and down stream practices, engineering and scientific industrial specifications. In addition to a thorough understanding of the current legislation in particular the area of relevant environmental legislation for marine and land impact assessments, risk assessments and social assessments.
Environmental Sciences Limited has partnered with Woods Hole Group Inc. for specific oceanography, numerical sediment transport modeling studies and high level 2 preparation of impact assessments. ESL also provides oil spill trajectory modeling through its affiliation with Applied Sciences Associates. ASA is a leader in the field of coastal and marine modeling.
ESL also utilises the services of a number of specialist risk assessment companies for various levels of risk assessments (hazards identification, qualitative risk assessment and quantitative risk assessment) for specific projects.
ESL's core business stream includes the provision of technical and environmental studies and assessment solutions, engineering, design and project management services for the upstream and downstream industries.
ESL's Environmental Management System (EMS) has been developed to provide quality policies and procedures. The company provide full time resources to maximise our quality system and update our EMS.
ESL has also conducted many terrestrial field studies throughout Trinidad, Guyana and Suriname, with the aim of expanding our biodiversity database through the identification and enumeration of species of flora, birds, butterflies, terrestrial mammals, reptiles and amphibians. ESL has also conducted sensitivity assessments of terrestrial habitats (forest, swamps, mangroves, wetlands), through vegetation analysis and habitat analysis. Terrestrial field studies also encompass the examination of physical components of the environment, such as surface water quality; soil and sediment quality; air quality; daytime and night-time noise; and climate and meteorology through the deployment of ESL's weather station.
As with the marine and terrestrial environments, ESL has collected a wide and comprehensive range of data on flora, beach macrofauna, birds, butterflies, mammals, reptiles and amphibians that occur within the coastal zone (landward of the shoreline). Field studies conducted for the assessment of water quality, sediment type, grain size and quality; air quality, noise, and climate and meteorology within the coastal zone also form part of ESL's comprehensive database. These data on coastal biodiversity resources, along with an analysis of coastal form and structure (beach profiling and RTK surveys), feed into comprehensive coastal sensitivity analyses in Trinidad and Guyana which ESL has conducted, based on the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) Guidelines (Petersen et al. 2002).
ESL takes pride in having local staff, which gives the company a better understanding of the areas within Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. This local content is a valuable resource specific to the local diversity and variety of projects the company engages in.
