First Citizens Celebrates 5th Cohort of UWI Interns

A hybrid Closing Ceremony on Friday 6th August, 2021 marked the final day of the First Citizens 2021 Internship Programme. Despite the pandemic and for yet another year, the Group in partnership with the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine pushed forward to mentor and expose 19 students to the world of work for 10 weeks.

The hybrid; in-person and virtual format, enabled participants from both the First Citizens Group and UWI to participate fully whilst observing COVID-19 protocols, celebrate the achievements of the interns and prepare them for the next stage of their educational and professional journey.

UWI Representatives included: Professor Brian Copeland – Campus Principal, Dr. Brian Cockburn – Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology and Dr. Acolla Lewis-Cameron – Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences along Dr Shelly-Ann Wilson – Head, Department of Management Studies.

First Citizens Deputy CEO, Operations and Administration, Professor Sterling Frost was also on hand to personally thank the interns for their exceptional contributions to the Group and for capitalizing on this remarkable internship opportunity even when faced with the challenges of a Covid-19 environment.

He expressed his confidence in the interns and reminded them that their purpose would influence their decisions and guide their actions to benefit and inspire everyone in their lives. In his parting advice he encouraged the 5th cohort of interns, “Go out and continue to inspire.”
