First Citizens Host Virtual Girls Empowerment Festival

October 8th, 2020    |   Related To: First Citizens

Notwithstanding the challenges presented by the COVID-19 Pandemic, First Citizens has forged ahead with the hosting of its annual girls empowerment event First Citizens Girls First Festival. The festival which ordinarily travels across the nation offering teenaged girls an immersive, one-day, activity filled experience, will instead be delivered completely virtually in 2020.

This year, the event which is free of charge to girls between the age of 13 and 18 years will run over the course of two days – Saturday 17th October and Sunday 18th October 2020. Registered attendees will engage with a range of educational and fun developmental workshops such as Dollar Signs (Budgeting and Personal Finance); Entrepreneurship; Health & Wellness; Styling and Worthiness and Slayage 101 (Skincare and age appropriate makeup tips). The main workshop, “The Girl Word” facilitated by Gender Consultant Asha Maharaj, will challenge the girls to analyze portrayals of girls in various media and discuss the expectations of women and girls in society. With Soca Artiste and social media darling Nadia Batson delivering the Keynote Address, this dynamic two-day festival culminates in a live virtual concert featuring DJ Viking Ding Dong and Nadia Batson.

With close to 500 girls from across the region registered to participate in the first virtual First Citizens Girls First Festival, the two-day event is sure to be an engaging and informative experience.
