Guardian Group Advances Regional Recovery with Contribution to Jamaica

Guardian Group has reinforced its commitment to regional resilience and educational continuity with a TTD$100,000 (J$2.3 million) contribution to support schools in western Jamaica impacted by Hurricane Melissa. The cheque handover ceremony took place on 16 April 2026 at Guardian Life Limited, Jamaica.
This contribution forms part of the proceeds from the SHINE 2025 Charity Walk/Run, hosted in Trinidad and Tobago, which raised over TT$780,000 in support of children and children’s charities. The allocation to Jamaica reflects a deliberate, regionally coordinated approach to recovery – prioritising interventions that stabilise learning environments and support long-term community resilience.
Speaking at the handover, Group Chief Operating Officer, President of Guardian Shared Services Limited and Chairman of the Guardian Group Foundation, Greer Quan, highlighted the strategic intent behind the initiative. “This donation is about standing with Jamaica’s communities as they recover and rebuild. Through SHINE, we are proud to contribute J$2.3 million to support schools in restoring safe and functional learning environments. These are practical interventions that will make a meaningful difference for students and teachers,” she shared.
The funds, channelled through the National Education Trust (NET) in partnership with Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, will address critical operational gaps, including access to learning materials through shared photocopying services, provision of generators to restore reliable electricity and minor infrastructural repairs to affected schools.
Executive Director of the National Education Trust, Latoya Harris-Ghartey, underscored the importance of timely, coordinated support. “In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, schools have faced significant disruptions to teaching and learning. This intervention directly supports priority institutions, including Frome Technical High School and others within its cluster, enabling a more rapid return to stable operations and reinforcing the system’s capacity to withstand future shocks,” she noted.
State Minister in Jamaica’s Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information, Rhoda Moy Crawford, also acknowledged the value of regional partnership. “This initiative reflects a model of collaboration that strengthens recovery outcomes. It demonstrates how regional institutions can align resources to address immediate needs while supporting longer-term development objectives within the education sector,” she said.
This contribution builds on the Guardian Group Charitable Foundation’s previous US$312,000 donation in November 2025, to support recovery and rebuilding efforts in Jamaica following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa. Together, these initiatives reinforce Guardian Group’s role as a regional partner – supporting communities not only in times of growth, but also in periods of recovery and rebuilding.
