M.A.T.H.S. Unites Corporate T&T to Support Success Laventille Secondary School

A dynamic team of professionals is making a difference at Success Laventille Secondary School (SLSS) through the Mentoring and Transforming Hardworking Students (M.A.T.H.S.) initiative, led by proud SLSS alumna and lead coordinator Melissa Pierre.
The M.A.T.H.S. initiative was born out of a desire to provide students with strong mentorship, positive role models, and tangible support in both their academic and personal development. Recognizing that many students face social and economic challenges, the programme was introduced to foster resilience, motivation, and long- term success by connecting them with dedicated mentors and a broader network of support.
Every Friday, the M.A.T.H.S. club brings together enthusiastic students from Forms I and II for mentorship sessions featuring inspiring guest speakers and one-on-one guidance from committed mentors – including SLSS graduates, community members, and professionals eager to give back.
In celebration of the International Day of Caring, and in partnership with United Way, corporate Trinidad and Tobago has stepped forward in a big way. Unicomer Trinidad is leading the charge with generous contributions that will significantly enhance the school’s facilities and learning environment, including:
• Desktops for the school library to expand the students’ access to technology and digital resources
• Forty-five (45) wall fans to be installed in classrooms, ensuring a cooler and more comfortable learning space
• Tree and shrub planting to beautify the school grounds and promote environmental stewardship
SuperPharm has also donated benches made from recycled plastic, providing students with outdoor seating, and Xtra Foods is fueling volunteers with meals.“
M.A.T.H.S. is about more than mentorship – it’s about transformation,” said Melissa Pierre, Lead Coordinator of M.A.T.H.S. “Through consistent support, exposure to professionals, and improved learning environments, our students are building confidence, discovering their potential, and reimagining their futures. This initiative is helping to strengthen the ties between our communities, schools, and corporate partners – proving that when we work together, we can change lives.”
