Nine ICTs 4 Seniors Graduates receive smartphones under e-C.A.R.E. initiative

Nine participants from the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago’s (TATT’s) 2026 ICTs 4 Seniors Programme received smartphones under the e-C.A.R.E. (Connect, Access, Review and Empower) Digital Inclusion Initiative, further advancing TATT’s efforts to include senior citizens in government’s trust to increase this country’s digital capacity and capabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, TATT’s Chief Executive Officer, Kurleigh Prescod, reaffirmed TATT’s commitment to ensuring that all citizens can participate in the country’s digital transformation.
“Digital inclusion is about more than access to technology; it is about empowering people with the knowledge and confidence to use technology meaningfully. By providing smartphones to eligible participants who have completed the ICTs 4 Seniors Programme, we are helping to ensure that our seniors can remain connected, informed and engaged in today’s increasingly digital society,” Prescod said.
Each recipient received a Samsung smartphone and a SIM card with one-month prepaid service, enabling them to immediately apply the skills acquired through the ICTs 4 Seniors Programme. The devices will support participants in accessing online services, including government e-services, communicating with family and caregivers, and engaging more confidently in the digital environment.
The smartphone devices were presented today at a ceremony held at TATT’s Head Office, marking the second smartphone distribution under the e-C.A.R.E. initiative. The presentation follows the inaugural distribution of smartphones in Tobago in April, which coincided with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between TATT and Tobago Information Technology Limited (TITL) to strengthen ICT collaboration, expand digital access and support innovation across Tobago.
Financed through TATT’s Universal Service Fund (USF), which supports projects that expand access to telecommunications and digital services for underserved and vulnerable communities, the e-C.A.R.E. initiative is executed in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence, TATT, the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, TITL, and other stakeholders to advance digital inclusion among senior citizens. The partnership seeks to improve access to mobile Internet services, strengthen digital skills and confidence, and expand opportunities for meaningful participation in the digital economy and society.
Since its launch in 2025, TATT’s ICTs 4 Seniors Programme has benefited approximately 400 senior citizens across Trinidad and Tobago, helping them develop essential digital skills and build confidence in using technology. Today’s recipients are among the latest graduates to benefit from the programme and its expanding digital inclusion opportunities. Through initiatives such as e-C.A.R.E. and ICTs 4 Seniors, TATT continues to promote digital inclusion and ensure that everyone is equipped with the skills, tools and support needed to participate fully in Trinidad and Tobago’s evolving digital landscape, ensuring that no one is left behind.
