The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) has launched a digital literacy programme ICTs4Seniors designed to equip senior citizens with the digital skills needed to thrive in today’s connected world.
The ICTs4Seniors workshop series is part of TATT’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that no segment of the population is left behind in the nation’s thrust to increase the adoption of information and communication technology (ICT). The programme provides hands-on training to senior citizens (aged 50yrs and older) in key areas, for example, optimal use of smartphones, cybersafety and recognising online threats, artificial intelligence (AI), accessing government e-services, and use of digital communication platforms, for example, Zoom and WhatsApp.
Kurleigh Prescod, Chief Executive Officer of TATT says, “We believe that every citizen, regardless of age, should feel confident using technology. ICTs4Seniors is more than a training programme – it’s about opening new doors to inclusion, independence and empowerment in an increasingly digital society.”
The initiative reflects TATT’s broader mandate to facilitate universal quality connectivity, increase digital awareness and close the digital divide among vulnerable or underserved populations. This initiative follows other ICT programmes hosted by TATT, such as Girls in ICT and Empowering Men with Digital Skills, which have collectively trained hundreds of citizens in e-commerce, AI tools, website development and mobile app development.
The ICTs4Seniors programme will be hosted at specific ICT centres across the country. The sessions will be facilitated by skilled trainers from Restore A Sense of I Can (RSC), a nonprofit organisation dedicated to social development via education & technology.
