Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd. Partners with United Way TT to Transform the Edinburgh Government Primary School

This past weekend Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd., in collaboration with United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT), successfully executed its transformative Day of Caring initiative at Edinburgh Government Primary School in Chaguanas. This metamorphic move geared toward positively impacting the school environment for both students and staff, brought together some 70 plus volunteers comprising mainly of Unicomer team members, school personnel, parents and some dedicated external partners, all united in a shared vision and mission to enhance this school’s learning space.
The key activities included the painting of the school’s exterior walls around the courtyard, landscaping of the forward-facing grounds and the removal of old tyres that previously occupied a space in the school’s frontage. These improvements have substantially boosted the school’s appearance and safety. The initiative was made possible through the generous support of several partners.
Firstly, Sherwin Williams donated more than 70 gallons of paint along with brushes and several disposable items, enabling a vibrant transformation of the school’s exterior walls. Tidy Hands Landscaping Services provided their expertise free of charge, contributing plants, soil and mulch to enhance the school’s entryway onto the compound. Their team also took the extra step of educating the school’s principal and volunteers on proper plant maintenance thus ensuring the sustainability of the new improvements. Further support came from Tweety’s Transportation, who contributed their labour for the removal and disposal of old tyres, promoting a cleaner and safer environment for the school community.
Unicomer Group’s 2026 Day of Caring project connects the company’s sustainability focus with United Way’s strategic education network and focus on childhood success. Recognizing that companies often extract economic value from communities, Unicomer Group seeks to re-invest into these communities through various altruistic ventures. Managing Director of Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd., Shiva Mungal, addressed the company’s philosophy in selecting Edinburgh Government Primary School. He said, “this primary school is located within one of the communities in which we as the Unicomer Group operates, primarily through the Courts brand. As a company, we believe it’s important for us to continue contributing to these communities and through our partners at United Way, we have identified this school as one that really needed some help.” He also praised the power of partnership and giving back time as a resource to get things done, noting that the project could not be completed without the time-based sacrifice of staff and assistance from key partners.
Adella Neverson, Acting Principal of Edinburgh Government Primary School, praised the project, suggesting that a clean environment is conducive to the learning process. She shared that students are positively impacted by learning in an environment in which they can take pride. She also added, “projects like this are important because it builds community. It follows the saying that a community builds a child, so when companies like Unicomer partner with the school we foster community outreach and development. These students will eventually have an impact on their communities, so they need to know that adults appreciate them and are willing to work for their benefit.”
This combined effort between Unicomer (Trinidad) Ltd. and United Way Trinidad and Tobago emphasizes the power of corporate and community partnerships in influencing momentous change. The Day of Caring initiative continues to serve as a testament to what can be accomplished when organisations and individuals come together for a shared cause.
