UWI and AMCHAM sign MoU to advance Artificial Intelligence Development in T&T

On April 14, 2026, the Artificial Intelligence Innovation Centre (AIIC) at UWI St. Augustine and AMCHAM T&T formalized a strategic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the AIIC, Faculty of Engineering Boardroom, UWI St. Augustine Campus.

The MoU was signed by Nirad Tewarie, CEO of AMCHAM T&T, and Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus.

Also present for this significant occasion were Professor Bheshem Ramlal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UWI; Dr. Craig Ramlal, Executive Director (Chair) at the AIIC; and Dr. Arvind Singh, Principal Investigator, intelliGRID at the AIIC.

This partnership will deliver tangible benefits to both the private sector and the wider national ecosystem, including:

• Greater access to cutting-edge AI research and innovation

• Practical tools and support for AI adoption within businesses

• Training, upskilling, and micro-credential opportunities

• Stronger collaboration between industry experts and academia

• Enhanced policy development in AI governance and digital transformation
